Here are the benefits of worrying:

1. ____________________________________________

2.____________________________________________

3.____________________________________________

Yep, there are none.

And yet how often do we toss and turn all night because of worry?

How often do we create the worst of scenarios in our heads of what tomorrow might bring only to realize that it’s unlikely it will really come true?

How often do we waste endless hours of thoughts and energy fearing the unknown?

Unfortunately worry plagues us all to some extent in some way.

Worry is what takes a situation we are going through and exaggerates the potential negative outcomes.

Or sometimes it takes no situation at all and creates a hypothetical one out of nothing.

Worry is a big deal in our life because it’s not just a physical and mental issue.

It’s a spiritual one.

Because what worry does is it doubts God.

It doubts God’s sovereignty.

Because if God is really in control then shouldn’t you trust Him to take care of every area of your life?

It doubts God’s love.

Because if God really loves you unconditionally shouldn’t you trust Him to bring things to pass in your life that will result in your ultimate good?

By worrying whether you like it or not you are inadvertently saying “I don’t trust God.

Worry is pointless because it does absolutely nothing to change the outcome of what will happen.

And unless you choose to fight it directly it will threaten to steal any ounce of peace, joy, and hope that you have.

But there is an antidote for worry that works better than any antidepressants or special technique ever will.

It’s pretty simple.

The opposite of worry is peace.

And where does peace come from?

It comes from God, specifically from His Word.

It is in His Word that we are told not to worry about a single thing in our lives because the God who so lovingly takes care of the birds and the flowers will even more so take care of His children created by His hands and adopted as His own.(Matthew 6:25-34)

It is in His Word that we are reminded to cast all of our burdens on God so that He will carry them for us. (Psalm 55:22)

It is in His Word that we see His love demonstrated to us by hands that were nailed to a blood-stained cross.

It is in His Word that we read testimony after testimony of how God took care of every single man and woman after His heart that called out to Him for help, for protection, and for answers to needs.

How can we not trust a God who has proven time and time again to be faithful to us through His Word and His sacrifice on the cross?

The way to overcome our worries is to be filled with the peace that comes from reading His Word.

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” –Isaiah 26:3

I think the peace we experience in our daily lives is proportionate to how much of our minds are filled with God’s Word.

Faith that doesn’t shatter during trials and that doesn’t get shaken during storms is faith that has been rooted in the Word of God.

Peace that extends beyond troubling circumstances is peace that has been anchored by the truth that is found in the Word of God.

That kind of peace lasts even when you don’t know all the answers, even when you’re not sure exactly how your story will unfold, even when the waves around you are still rocking your boat.

Do you want this kind of peace?

Then do what Paul exhorts the Romans to do in Romans 10:17: keep on filling your mind with God’s Word.

There’s a saying that worry and faith can’t coexist and I can’t think of anything that is more true.

If your mind is filled with God’s Word there will be no more room for worries and lies that the enemy tries to send your way.

You won’t be able to live in fear when you’re too busy thinking about how your Almighty Father is walking next to you through everything you go through.

You won’t be able to live in depression and discouragement when you’re too busy thinking about how God loved you enough to send His very own son to die for you.

You won’t be able to live worrying about what tomorrow will bring when you’re too busy thinking about how faithful God has always been in taking care of you.

Today… if your mind is filled with worries come to God’s Word and exchange it for the peace that He offers you.

You don’t need to have any more sleepless night and any more days filled with fear.

You don’t need to create any more negative scenarios in your head about the unknown.

Turn to God’s Word, fill your mind with His truth and in return He will fill your heart with His peace and hope regardless of the outcomes that follow.

Be blessed and keep on trusting God to take care of all your worries!  -Anna… ♥

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

    • I am too! But when I start to worry I remind myself that the best thing I can do at that moment is stop + pray about what it is that I’m worrying about and trust God to take care of it. He always does!! Hope you have a blessed day!

  1. so true and so powerful. God’s word is sufficient to conquer all worries. We only need to admit and come before the throne of His allmighty power.

  2. Thanks Anna….. just what I needed too. I try to turn my worries over to God but then I take them right back. This is an area of my life I need to work on. Do you have a suggestion for what book of the Bible to read when one is overcome with worry? Thanks for this post!

    • Hi Gail, I think that’s a temptation we all face… to take back the worries that we surrender to God. Sometimes holding on to them makes us feel like we have a little bit of control over what will happen when in reality we really have no control. The best place for our worries to be will always be in the hands of God and not in our own minds. He will always take good care of us! For me personally, I love reading Psalms when I tend to worry (or even the gospels where Jesus talks about not having to worry). Both of those books help me remember to call out to God in my troubles and trust for Him to faithfully take care of me. 🙂

  3. Thanks for this tonight Anna! We have been trying to get pregnant with baby number 2 now for 9 months and it’s hard not to start worrying. Thank you for the reminder. It’s a hard one to not worry about but I know The Lord has his hand on me. No need to worry for He knows the deepest desires of my heart. <3 beautifully written!

    • Thanks Emily! When we have a reason to worry we have an even BIGGER reason to trust God. Times of waiting on God’s answers are always the hardest but also the greatest opportunities to trust in Him to come through for us. He does know the deepest desires of your heart and I know that He won’t keep you waiting for too much longer without good reason! Hope you have a blessed day! ♥

  5. I love your posts, they really do inspire me. I read them over and over whenever I need reminding of where to turn to in my walk of life. Thank you for your time in putting it all together. God bless you

  6. So well said. Two thumbs up. We must have faith in God and trust his word and keep reading his word daily building our faith to replace those thoughts of worry for thoughts of peace. God’s thoughts are plans and they are perfect plans and when we read his plan for us (the bible) everyday, we will see great change in our life. I agree with this blog 100%! GREAT JOB! Thank you again for your post. God bless you!

    • Amen Darryl! Our greatest weapon against the enemy’s attack is the Word of God. There is so much power in knowing who we are in Him and standing on His truth and promises. God bless you!

  7. Thanks Anna, im guilty of being a worrier as well. Just imagine me to get married at 39 and having no money again to pay for my house rent due to unplanned that happened. where will i go then with my wife?
Its just God intervention that is needed to escape the shame and embarrassment.
    Really need God help!!!

    • That is a difficult situation to go through. 🙁 But God is a provider and I know that no circumstance is too big for Him to intervene in and provide an answer for. May He help you trust Him and His faithfulness in taking care of you and your wife no matter what you face. God bless!
