I have a problem.

One I have been aware of for a long time.

It’s an issue I have battled with my whole life and quite honestly, I don’t know if it’s one I will ever overcome.

Here it is:

I like to know how everything ends.

Stories. Movies. Books.

If I have the option to do so… and the lack of self-control to hold myself back I have a terrible habit of flipping to the last page of the book to read the ending or I fast forward a movie to watch the last few minutes of a film to see how the story unfolds.

Yes, I have a problem.

I don’t like mystery, anticipation, and all the feelings that come with unknown territory.

I’d rather spoil the ending for myself to make sure the story is good than continue reading it, hearing it, or watching it unfold on its own.

And I have noticed that sometimes I try do it with my life.

Obviously, I can’t flip to the last page of my story and read the ending, but I can attempt to guess what it holds. I can worry about it. And I can wonder about it.

I try to makes sense of everything currently happening in my life and make all the puzzle pieces fit together somehow. I try to figure out God’s angle and plan.

But unfortunately, I have been learning that it’s not for me to figure out.

See, part of having a relationship with God includes having faith in the unknown. When the plot isn’t clear and the ending is uncertain. When there is no logical explanation to why you are in the situation you are in. When you can’t see the future and what lies ahead.

God wants to use the uncertain, unknown, and confusing times in our life to draw us closer to Him so that we can come to a place of trusting Him so deeply that we won’t need to know how the story ends, because we know Him.

The closer I get to God the less answers I will need because I will know His character and trust His heart.

In the end, not knowing- hard as it is, is what grows my faith.

I will know that He is the author of my life and no matter how my current chapter and season looks my life won’t end in disappointment, failure, or flames because He is my Faithful Father, Loving Friend, and Almighty Provider and He won’t let me down.

I will trust that His way for me is good, even when it leads me through dark and lonely places.

Even when it brings me face to face with towering giants.

Even when it lands me right in the middle of a storm.

Yes, I wish I could to jump ahead in my story, I want to figure out all the details, I want to see whether or not tomorrow all my prayers will be answered and all my needs will be met.

I want to be excited about the good that might happen, I want to prepare for the worst.

But God in His loving kindness doesn’t reveal what the future might hold. Instead of answering my questions He draws me closer to Himself and says, “I am your answer. I am the One who has been there from the beginning and I will be there until the very end. You don’t need to know what your future holds, you just need to know Me. And when you do, you won’t worry about a single thing because you’ll know deep inside your heart that you have nothing to be afraid of, your life is in good hands.”

If you are in the slightest way at all like me, God wants to remind you that you don’t need to worry about your ending when you know the author of your life because His will for you comes out of His love for you even if it doesn’t always make sense.

You can know God intimately and you can trust Him. You don’t have to fear the unknown, you don’t need to worry about what the next chapter of your life will hold, you don’t need to try to skip to the ending. You can have faith that whatever path He leads you on… it will all work out for you good.

I don’t know how your story will end.

But I do know that God doesn’t leave His children hanging.

I know God doesn’t allow His people to walk in the desert without a Promised Land waiting for them in the end.

I know God didn’t allow David to face a giant without providing him with the tools and faith to defeat him.

I know God didn’t allow the disciples to find themselves in the middle of a storm without Him right beside them to calm it with just one word.

I know God didn’t allow Joseph to spend years facing hardship from betrayal by family, to slavery, to imprisonment without a plan to bring him out and help him rise above to be one of the greatest men in his time.

And I know that no matter what place you find yourself in today, God is still in control. He has not abandoned you. He has not forgotten you.

You may have a few hard chapters in your life. You make walk through the desert for a little while. You may face a few storms.

But that’s not going to be your whole story.

So don’t worry about what tomorrow will bring.

God has a good future ahead for you still.

“If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” –Matthew 6:30,34

Never lose hope. The creator of the World is on your side. You are in the safest hands possible today. -Anna… ♥

    • Amen Karina! It can be difficult to trust God when we don’t see the big picture or how the puzzle pieces all fit together, but knowing that He is our Good Father who always wants what is best for us always helps calm any worries I have and believe that no matter what circumstance I find myself in He is working it out for my good. ♥ Looking forward to reading your blog post!

  2. Great post. As I was reading it occurred to me that one of the reasons God doesn’t tell us the end of our story as believers is because we don’t really have one. That is the glory of having everlasting life.

  3. Thank you for this. I have been struggling with the plan God has for me and the inability to see my way clear. Not knowing is difficult for me… but I am thankful that I am in the hands of the Almighty! God Bless 🙂

    • I”m glad the post encouraged you Lynn. ♥ May God help you keep holding on to faith in the circumstance you currently find yourself. He is always faithful to His children and I am believing He will be faithful in taking care of you and your needs today. God bless you!

    • Thank you Mel! And yes, faith wouldn’t be required if we already have life all figured out. Uncertainties, though something I wish I had less off, only helps me depend more on Christ, and that’s always a good outcome. 🙂 God bless!

    • Thanks Moriah. Growth never comes easily in our walk with Christ, but all the challenges and uncertainties we face are always worth it when it brings us closer to Him and helps us become like Him. ♥ God bless you!
