One Person Doesn’t Make a Difference…

We live in a world that is all about the numbers.

And the higher the number, the better it is for you.

Whether it’s the amount you have in your bank account.

How many followers you have on twitter.

Or how many people know your name.

It’s easy to get caught up and start caring too much about those numbers.

Multitudes of the thousands attract the big-name preachers.

But one lost soul in the middle of nowhere usually doesn’t.

Making a difference in the lives of many people at once motivates many people to get involved in something bigger than themselves.

Making a difference in the life of one person doesn’t usually get someone out of bed and excited to share the gospel every morning.

But the truth is when Jesus was alive and walking this earth He was different than many of us today because for Jesus numbers didn’t matter.

Sure, there were times when He would preach to multitudes of thousands, but that wasn’t His #1 focus.

How many times did He stop for one person that needed His help?

That one person that anyone else would have passed by without a thought?

He stopped at the well for that Samaritan woman (John 4) who so desperately needed to find her fulfillment in Him alone, rather than multiple men.

He stopped for Zacchaeus, a despised tax collector who was trying to see Him from a tree (Luke 19). He even invited himself over for dinner.

He stopped for the women who committed adultery and was about to get stoned for her sin (John 8:9-11) and stayed after everyone else left to share His love and forgiveness with her.

Jesus could have chosen to preach to thousands every day.

He could have attracted the largest crowds in His time.

He could have focused on counting how many people showed up to hear Him speak.

But He didn’t.

He chose to stop for that one person who needed His help.

He chose to not count the numbers and make a difference in one life.

Do you know why?

Because heaven rejoices when ONE sinner repents (Luke 15:7).

Not one hundred, not one thousand, not one million, but one.

There is a party up in heaven when you share God’s good news with ONE person and they come to Him.

Because one more person is spared suffering for eternity and will spend it in heaven with Jesus instead.

One more person can wake up every morning with true joy and peace that they have found in Jesus.

One more person can find meaning and purpose for their life in this world today.

So today, can you stop for that one person?

Maybe you think it’s not a big deal if you just tell one person about Jesus.

Maybe you think that you need to wait until you are able to minister to the thousands.

Maybe one just doesn’t seem like it really makes a difference and you’d rather not put the effort into it.

But one person makes a difference for heaven.

Today… share God’s love with one person.

Be extra kind to one person you don’t know.

Take time to stop and talk to one person.

You never know, those 5, 10, or 30 minutes in your day could make a difference for someone else’s eternity.

One is a small number in this world, but it’s a big number in heaven.

It was worth it for Jesus to stop and make a difference in one life, will it be for you?
