I know I don’t share much about myself here on this blog but today I wanted to share something cool that you may not know yet: I’m best friends with the President.

Yep. You got it.

The man who sits behind the big desk at the White House every day.

He’s my best friend.

How is that possible you might ask?

Well… I’m his biggest fan.

Literally.

I was first in line to his campaigns when he was running for office.

I cheered the loudest when he won presidency.

I follow his every move on the newspaper, the magazines, and the tv.

I listen to people share their opinions about him (as well as share my own.)

I know everything there is to know about him.

From the date of his birth, to his thoughts on different parts of the government and politics, to his family history.

I know it all.

Which is what makes him my best friend.

BUT…. to be totally honest with you.

 I have actually never personally met him.

I have never sat across a table from him and listened to him share what was on his heart.

I have never even shaken his hand.

I think I know him pretty well.

Enough to call him my best friend.

But the truth is… if he ran into me on the street today he wouldn’t even know my name.

Sad I know.

But you know what’s even sadder?

Often times Christians have the same exact relationship with Jesus.

As I do with Obama. (Which if you haven’t figured out yet is very much made up).

See… there’s a huge difference between knowing Jesus and knowing about Jesus.

There’s a difference between reading facts about Him in the Bible and actually having a genuine relationship with Him.

There’s a difference between listening to pastors sharing messages on Him, reading blogs posts by people about Him, listening to music that is centered around Him and actually having a one-on-one conversation with Him.

As a friend.

As someone I can pour my heart out to when I come home after a long day at work.

As someone I can’t wait to share my tears, my joy, my excitement with during the difference circumstances I find myself in each day.

As someone I run to for advice when I don’t know how to handle a certain situation or don’t know what step to take next in life.

As someone I look forward to spending time with each day.

Jesus doesn’t just want to be someone you hear about, read about, and sing about.

He wants to be the one you rely on every single day.

The one you greet every morning when you wake up.

The one you say goodnight to every time you go to bed.

He wants to walk with you just like He walked with Enoch.

He wants to talk to you like He talked to Abraham.

He wants to live life with you beside Him every day like He did with His disciples.

He wants to be your best friend.

Today… my challenge to you is this: think about how you and Jesus are today.

Is He really the best friend you can’t live without?

Or is that just what you say?

I don’t know about you… but I want Him to be more.

More than someone I just know from a distance.

More than someone I hear about from others.

More than someone I just know facts about.

I can talk about Him all I want, but it doesn’t matter if I don’t talk to Him every day.

I don’t want a mediocre relationship with the One who gives me life, purpose, and hope for every day.

Many people will claim they “know” Jesus.

Good people.

People who say they are Christian.

But in the end God will say He doesn’t even know them .

Because they only knew about Him… but they didn’t really know Him.

Not the way He wanted them to.

I don’t know about you but I want to know God personally so that in the end He will know my name.

So that I don’t walk a single moment in life without Him.

So that I don’t miss out on the one relationship that will change the way I face each day and makes a difference between life and death.

If the President sent you an invitation to have breakfast with him tomorrow morning, I’m sure you’d set all your plans aside to meet with him.

I’m sure you’d make sure that’s a meeting you don’t miss.

But often times we miss it with God.

He invites you every single day to walk with Him.

To talk to Him.

To live life with Him.

The Creator of Heaven and Earth- the Almighty Father Himself wants to meet with you today.

Wants you to know Him as more than a distant friend.

Will you take that first step toward Him?

Will you truly make Him your best friend?

    • Thank you Jess! Exactly! I think so many people are missing out on knowing God on an intimate level because they don’t know they can have a much deeper relationship with Him than just knowing about Him like they know about Abraham, Moses, and anybody else in this world.

    • Thanks Bill! That’s a great verse for this post! Some people think it’s hard to have a relationship with someone you can’t see but I personally think it’s easier because He’s not limited to space and time. We can talk to Him all day long if we want to. 🙂

    Fantastic parallel, and excellent post. John 17:3 states, “THIS is eternal life, that they know You, the One true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” We see eternal life as a gift wrapped in a box and presented to us. Umm…won’t *everyone* live forever? Destination is the issue, I believe.

    Romans 6:23 says that the gift OF (not *from*) God is eternal life. God Himself is the gift!

    You’ve nailed this one, sweet sister. We need this reminder often! 🙂

  14. Yes, not just knowing Him but knowing His ways too. Knowing Him not just to take from His hand but to hear from Him our mission.

    P.S. Can you tell your friend the President to do something about all the road works in Johnson County, Kansas please? Next time I go there I want it all cleared up.

  15. Amen. Thanks for sharing! How I have struggled with that over the years. It is so easy to fall into just placidly doing the Christian thing and not following wholeheartedly after the savior.

    • That’s so true Naomi! Sometimes we get so caught up in living the Christian “lifestyle” that we lose that intimate relationship with Christ that we once had. It’s so important to keep Him in the center of our lives so we never start becoming the lukewarm Christians that the Bible warns us about!

  16. Wow, that is just the way I feel. I used to just know about Jesus and was never really close to him until be blessed me with MS and that turned me around and I am deeply in Love with Jesus.. I praise him for my MS cause it keeps me very close to him. God Bless you!

    • Isn’t it interesting how God uses those hard things in our lives to draw us closer to Him? That’s why although I don’t look forward to trials and tests I do embrace them when they come and thank God for them because I know it’s just something He is using to bring me back closer to Him. I’m glad that MS has helped you stay in love with Christ as you rely on Him to take care of you. Be blessed Jenna!

  17. Excellent and well articulated post. We must make time to study God’s Word with diligence and purpose, because without the knowledge of God and His purposes revealed in Scripture and in His Son, Jesus Christ, we finite humans, have at best a blurred picture of the invisible and all powerful Creator.

    However, when we pick up the Bible and encounter a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the Man who was God-in-the-flesh, the blurred picture fades away as we study and are obedient to His statutes and commandments. As the Savior Himself declared, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). Everyone needs to meet the Author, because to know Jesus Christ, the Living Word, is to Love the Bible, the written Word.

      The more we draw near to God and get to to know Him the more we will fall in love with His Word and understand (at least a little more) how incredible and majestic He is!

  20. Anna, thank you do much for this post. I have been a Christian my whole life, but it has only been recently, (since June, due to a difficult situation), that i have been in the process of making the transition from knowing about God to knowing God. This has been a very difficult process for me because i am in the place of trying to find my joy in the Lord when i don’t have happiness due to certain circumstances in my life. I am trying to pursue God, but have not found that joy yet. I am trusting in Him to bring me to that place.

    • I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through a difficult time right now Debbie:( Hard times definitely have a way of bringing us to our knees as we lean on God to find that peace and joy that only He can give. I’ve been there before and I have found that place of joy with Christ in the midst of my storm and I know He can help you get there too! Happiness depends on circumstances but true joy can be found in Christ no matter what we are facing.

      I will be praying for you and that God will get you to that place of peace as you continue seeking His help and guidance. Be blessed!

  21. Thanks Anna for this seasonal word. It has always been my prayer and desire that the body of Christ will capture the dimension of a personal God who desires to relate with us, just like every normal father will behave with their kids. Do you know, there are millions of genuine Christians in our world today, who still don’t know God, and have no desire in their hearts to capture His character?
    They are in pursuit of the works of God, to the neglect of the person of God. The wandering generation of the Israelites in the wilderness, had this same attitude of disconnect. A disconnect attitude leads to a life of ill identity, insignificance, hopelessness, weakening faith, and a heart clogged into subpar behavior. No wonder, they easily gave up and complain against God and Moses in difficult times.

    Father God, we pray for your Church through this medium, that the Holy Spirit will escort us closer to your in all that we do and say. Thanks you for the revelation of your nature to relate in a very personal way. Amen!
